Mermay Day 14 Colored: The Siren's Song

Mermay sketch 14 colored:) I was really dragging my feet when it came to coloring this piece as the original sketch was a little boring…so I decided to change things up a little. Add a sunset and splashing waves and you’ve got my attention.

The biggest challenge for me was balancing the sunset behind the mermaid and not loosing her completely to the backlight. I added some cool tones to the mermaid as the opposite side of the sky would still hold some blue tints and would help light her figure.

Having a Christian Lassen art book nearby for reference was a huge help as he paints some amazing sunsets and crashing waves.
